The Notorious One Birthday Party

OMG my baby boy Kenzo is really turning one year old! This weekend, we celebrated with his Notorious ONE birthday party!

And ya’ll. I could’ve cried having so many people there to love on my baby!!! Family traveled from near and far and friends with and without kids came to kick it with the birthday boy!

It was truly a village moment and I am so so thankful.

Sidenote: I started to make a video reel to post on Instagram but then I decided not to. I no longer want to succumb to the pressure of having to do what social media says do. Especially when it comes to these kids. So, I’m sharing photos only, eff that reel! I’m no longer wasting time trying to keep up. No thanks. Another time this feeling came up for me was in planning for his birthday.. thinking back to spending more than $500 for birthday photos for my firstborn, and I didn’t even end up printing the pics. I literally spent all that money for pics to post online.. outrageous.. but we do it on the daily. Spending money to show what we’re doing. I’m slowly unsubscribing.

Anyway – back to the Notorious One birthday party!!!

Me and hubby decided last year that we’re not doing partied every year… We’re only doing 1st, 2nd and 5th. After that, we’re traveling to celebrate both since they’re a month apart! Unfortunately for us, that still means we end up planning parties 4 years in a row! Knowing what we spent the last two years for Kairo’s UNO party & Taco Twoday Party, I wanted to stick to a strict budget.

I knew we’d get the soft play set, that is always a winner with the kids! (And also a total hazard.. we really need to have folks sign waivers cuz those kids act cray lol) But with a soft play set, you won’t need much else, they keep themselves busy until you force them to leave kicking & screaming. Girls and boys of all ages seem to love them, highly recommend!

Believe it or not, we had already talked about the 1st birthday party theme when we chose Kenzo’s middle name: Kingston. We were going with a One Love Jamaican theme – red, green, and yellow with beef patties at the party lol But as we got closer to the date, I started feeling like that theme didn’t really fit him. Especially because we talked about it shortly after he was born and before we really “knew him” lol Then I ended up going to my girl Meg’s house for a first birthday and she did “One Happy Dude” which was so cute. We talked about me still not knowing what I wanted to do and she sent me the notorious one birthday theme!! Needless to say, Kenzo is more Notorious BIG than Bob Marley at the moment lol

I can easily get my money back for everything that I didn’t end up using. So, I just ordered everything I liked, used what I needed, and I’ll send back the rest.
