Exploring Positive Intelligence Techniques for Women

April 21, 2024

Everybody lied when they said you could just say a few positive affirmations and live a happy life… that’s not how it works, sis. It takes consistent minute-by-minute intention to produce a positive mindset that produces positive outcomes.

Until hearing from Vivian Vo, I had never heard of positive intelligence. I was familiar with emotional intelligence, but this new concept piqued my interest so I invited her to be a guest on my Girl Stop Playin Podcast so we could all learn positive intelligence techniques!

Positive Intelligence: A Guide for Millennial Women

In a world that’s constantly buzzing with activity, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise and forget to focus on what truly matters—our mental well-being. Positive intelligence is about harnessing the power of our minds to live a more fulfilled and happier life. Here’s how you can boost your positive intelligence:

Understand Your Saboteurs

  • The Judge: We all have an inner critic that judges ourselves, others, and our circumstances. Recognize when it speaks and learn to quiet it.
  • The Controller: This saboteur pushes us to take control of situations and people, often leading to stress. Embrace flexibility.
  • The Avoider: It focuses on the positives to such an extent that it avoids addressing problems. Balance optimism with realism.

Strengthen Your Sage

  • Your sage is the deep well of wisdom within you. It’s calm, clear-headed, and positive.
  • Practice mindfulness to tap into your sage. Meditation, deep breathing, and gratitude exercises can help.

The PQ Rep Technique

  • PQ (Positive Intelligence Quotient) reps are short mindfulness exercises that you can do anywhere.
  • Try using all five senses to fully experience a moment, like savoring the taste of your coffee or feeling the texture of your clothes.

Cultivate Self-Compassion

  • Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend.
  • Remember that everyone has flaws and makes mistakes. It’s part of being human.

Build Positive Relationships

  • Surround yourself with people who uplift you.
  • Engage in activities that foster connection, like group fitness classes or book clubs.

Set Boundaries

  • Learn to say no. It’s essential for maintaining your mental health.
  • Protect your time and energy by setting clear boundaries with work and relationships.

Embrace Change

  • Change is inevitable. View it as an opportunity for growth rather than a threat.
  • Stay curious and open to new experiences.

Practice Gratitude

  • Keep a gratitude journal. Write down three things you’re thankful for each day.
  • Expressing gratitude shifts your focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant in your life.

Nurture Your Passions

  • Make time for activities that bring you joy.
  • Whether it’s painting, hiking, or playing an instrument, your passions fuel your positive energy.

Live in the Present

  • Worrying about the future or dwelling on the past can drain your positive intelligence.
  • Focus on the here and now. Engage fully with the task at hand.

Positive intelligence is a skill that can be developed with practice. By understanding your saboteurs, strengthening your sage, and incorporating these tips into your daily life, you can enhance your mental well-being and live a more joyful, purpose-driven life.
